Home Round For Kawasaki Puccetti Racing

Kawasaki Puccetti Racing rider Can Öncü will soon get back into FIM Supersport World Championship race action at his team’s home venue - Misano World Circuit ‘Marco Simoncelli’ - between 14-16 June.

Can is proving to be stronger and fitter with every passing month since he suffered a serious injury to his left arm last season. He is also now recovered from mid-season surgery to relieve the effects of compartment syndrome in his right forearm.

Since the last round at Assen in mid-April Can has taken part in a test at the forthcoming WorldSSP host venue of Cremona, also located in Italy, and even raced in a British Supersport Championship round at Donington Park. Can won the Sprint Race on a local Gearlink Kawasaki and then finished runner up in the feature Supersport race.

Öncü has had some misfortunes in the early rounds of the WorldSSP Championship, hence he is 13th in the championship with a quarter of the season now complete.

The Kawasaki Puccetti Racing team will take the opportunity presented by their home round to celebrate 30 years of racing engagement by team owner Manuel Puccetti - first as a racer in his own right and then as a successful team owner.

As has happened in some previous seasons, the iconic all-black ELF colours will be on display on Öncü’s Ninja ZX-6R at Misano, instead of the more predominantly green and white livery that graces his machine at most other rounds.

Can Öncü, stated: “The Misano round has always been one of the season’s key events, in that it is our team’s home round. The tests we did at Cremona went really well and allowed us to refine the bike setup. I’ll do my best to exploit the full potential of the Ninja ZX-6R and give the team and sponsors the best possible results.”

Swiss rider Marcel Brenner (Viamo Racing Kawasaki) will be back in action again as a season regular. He has already scored points this season and will be out to score more at the seaside venue of Misano.

Danish competitor Simon Jespersen (Vince 64 Kawasaki) has taken over from outgoing rider Hikari Okubo from this round.

Gabriele Giannini (Prodina Kawasaki) will ride once more at his home event, having scored a point already in Race Two at Assen.

After the culmination of the Misano race weekend there will be another break in race action of a few weeks before the fifth round of the championship takes place at Donington Park between 12-14 July.
